2022 Year in Review

It’s been a while since I’ve updated. Drawing comics can be all-consuming. So here’s a list of all the comics I illustrated that were released this year.

HOUSE OF EL book 2

This is the middle chapter to the trilogy. Claudia Gray, the writer, provided me with a lot of fun settings and great characters to play with and Dee Cunniff made my work come alive with his smart colouring. Book 3 comes out early in 2023.

Here’s the solicitaion:

Sera is a young soldier, bred her entire life to fight for Krypton. She would die for this planet, but she’s never had the time or inclination to enjoy it. Zahn, however, is a young scientist, full of hope and ideas for how to improve Krypton for all its citizens. And yet, the cracks in his world are beginning to appear. In fact, both Sera and Zahn are unique in ways that will soon drive them from their destinies and toward each other–toward a cataclysmic ending to all that they once held true.

TIME BEFORE TIME vol. 3 / TIME BEFORE TIME #15-17

As a fan of the series I found myself very fortunate to be invited to draw an arc. Declan Shalvey, Rory McConville and Joe Palmer have created some fantastic characters. (Kevin being a particular favourite of mine) Dec and Rory’s plot turns hit me in the gut a couple of times with these issues. Lots of fun! And Chris O’Halloran’s colours blew me away. I should also add that this is my first time working with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, who lettered these comics, and I hope we can work together for the rest of my career.

Here’s the solicitation:

The past catches up with a vengeance in the latest chapter of the critically-acclaimed crime/time-travel series With the 33rd century’s most dangerous bounty hunters on their trail NadiaTatsuo and Kevin’s journey leads them further into the future than ever before. Afterschool #4

It’s always a treat working for Skybound. I think this book was one of the most challenging projects I’ve worked on yet. (and I love a challenge!) Leon Hendrix III provided a complex script that was surprsingly well crafted considering this was his first comic. And Fabiana Mascolo’s colours truly made my work come alive. There were several areas where I believe she saved me from myself and made me look better than I am.

Here’s the solicitation:

Skybound’s acclaimed new horror anthology concludes with another chilling standalone story. In this issue, LEON HENDRIX (Two Sentence Horror Stories, GEIGER 80-PAGE GIANT #1) and ERIC ZAWADZKI (HEART ATTACK, House of El) present an extracurricular you’d die to have on your high school transcript.Mr. Kelly wanted to shake up the traditions at his private boarding school, so he started a new club. But what happens when a history teacher’s grand experiment in free thinking takes on a life of its own?

Bloodshot Unleashed #4

This has got to be one of my favourite comics I’ve worked on to date. Writer Deniz Camp and I really clicked. His script was beautifully layered and lands with an emotionally resonant ending. Going forward I need to be working with Deniz as much as possible. And the same goes for colourist Jordie Bellaire. I’ve wanted to work with her for a long time and she did not disappoint. Round that out with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou on letters and I’m pinching myself wondering if this was all just a dream. Working with this team was truly a fantastic way to end 2022.

The soliciation

A bloody blast from the past!

• In the present, Bloodshot must track down Verlane, a “spent shell” experiencing nightmarish visions of his past being pursued by the authorities.

• In the past, Bloodshot has the fight of his life against Hobbes, exploring what occurred prior to the events of issue #1 to shatter Bloodshot’s family and home.

• Two escaped weapons. Two timelines. One epic issue!

VALIANT COMICS

I also did some covers this year. I did variants for Agent of W.O.R.L.D.E. #1, Time Before Time #15 and A Fistful of Pain.
